REEL MEMORIES is a collection of moving images of Dover and the surrounding district taken by professional and amateur cameramen in the periods before and after the second World War.
It shows a variety of scenes of domestic and social life and its real impact lies in the way it demonstrates just how much things have changed over the years. Look at the two-way traffic in the centre of Dover; remember "modern" offices before computers took over; be happy that you no longer have to black lead the kitchen range and wonder how you ever managed without fitted wardrobes.
There was a visit to Dover by the then Prime Minister Harold Wilson and the Opposition leader Sir Alec Douglas-Hume.
A look at Folkestone which once had the open air swimming pool were Channel swimmers trained or the entertaining fair on the seafront with its boating pool.
A trip to Margate sands were children were keep memorised by the Punch and Judy show and then there was the top entertainers who appeared at the Winter Gardens theatre,
A quite look at the town of Sandwich with its old toll bridge, which you could cross for 1s and 6d. A truely wonderfull archive of film
